Actress Patsy Kensit was plunged into early menopause four years ago after having an emergency hysterectomy to remove tumours from her ovary and bowel.
The star was originally given replacement oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone but struggled to get the balance right. As a result she suffered from a dry mouth, hot sweats, memory loss and emotional lows. The 48 year old has since had HRT implants and has urged people to be kinder to menopausal women, telling them they need to ‘cut them some slack’.
Since getting her hormones in check, Patsy’s life is back on track. “I’ve been misquoted as saying I feel less of a woman”, she said. “In fact, I feel more like a woman, I’ve grown so much, I feel much wiser.”
