Dr Marilyn Glenville is back with us and this week she has some important advice for us on DHEA
A Dr Marilyn Glenville PhD Health Tip
Be wary of DHEA
Taken from my book Natural Solutions to Menopause
DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is touted as the anti-ageing hormone. It is produced by the body but declines as we get older. It is said to prevent cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s, but is surrounded by a lot of hype. It is available on the internet but it can come with a price. DHEA is a steroid hormone; it is not a food or a vitamin or mineral supplement. Your body easily converts DHEA into oestrogen and testosterone so must be used with extreme caution in people with hormonal cancers. Other noted side effects are palpitations, excess growth of body hair and also hair loss (male pattern baldness).
